Confirmed Speakers

Anamarija Štafa, PhD
University of Zagreb, Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology, Croatia

Anamarija Štafa is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology, University of Zagreb. In 2003 she graduated Molecular Biotechnology at the Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology and in 2009 she obtained PhD in Molecular Genetics at the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb. During her PhD she was focused on homologous recombination and its application in gene targeting in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. As a postdoctoral researcher at INSERM U1001 (Paris, France) she was researching yeast chronological and replicative aging. Her second postdoc at Columbia University (New York, USA) was the return to the field of homologous recombination, she was studying a special double-strand break repair pathway called break-induced replication and its role in genome (in)stability. Since 2013 she is studying gene targeting in Saccharomyces and non-Saccharomyces yeasts at the Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology.
She is passionate about education and over the years she has been involved in different science outreach projects. Moreover, she is one of the founders of “Society for out of Frame Education” that organises international Summer School of Science (S3/S3++) in Požega, Croatia (http://www.drustvo-evo.hr/s3/index.html).
